the surroundings
HIKING
TRAILS starting from the Lodge offer guests a full range of
hiking, from easy walks around the lakes, to alpine meadows
abundant with WILD FLOWERS in the summer months. The "Cathedral
Rim Trail" follows a high alpine ridge 8500 feet above
sea level. This DAY HIKE leads to the unusual geological formations
that Cathedral Provincial Park is best known for. The Devils
Woodpile, Stone City, Smokey the Bear and The Giant Cleft
are all on The Rim Trail.
miles of views
The
360-degree VIEW from the rim enables hikers to see the North
Cascade Mountains, The Coast Range, The Thompson Plateau,
and The Kootenays all from one location. On a clear day Mt.
Baker is easily visible in the west and it is even possible
to see Mt. Rainier near Seattle. Almost 200 air miles away!
wilderness retreat
After
a day of hiking or FISHING guests enjoy a relaxing soak in
the hot tub, a good meal in the LODGE DINNING ROOM and a pleasant
evening in front of the stone fireplace. There are no radios,
televisions or even room phones and guests remark that the
lodge is place where new found friends entertain themselves
by engaging in the lost art of after dinner conversation.
